What are centralised systems?

For (((eTicket Deutschland to work, several systems work together in the background.

The so-called central systems form the technical basis for secure and interoperable electronic ticketing in public transport. These currently include:

  • ASM-Tool and (((eTicket Security Hub (ESH)
  • Clearing
  • Interoperable Network (ION)
  • Validation and Blocklist Service (KOSE)
  • Central Clearing House (ZVM)

These are the functions of the central systems

The ASM Tool and the ESH are the central ordering and download portals for everything relating to our ticketing standard:

  • In the ASM Tool, you’ll find all the information, components, specifications and releases for ticketing in accordance with the VDV core application
  • The ESH is the central platform for ticketing in accordance with the new industry standard (((etiCORE

Through both platforms, transport operators, transport associations and manufacturers gain access to specifications, the latest releases, security components and further specialist and technical information.

Currently, both systems, as well as the ticketing standards, exist in parallel: as soon as we phase out VDV-KA, the ASM Tool will also be phased out, and (((etiCORE and ESH will take over.

About the ASM tool

Clearing ensures that journeys across transport network and fare zone boundaries are billed correctly. It consists of three interlinked components:

  1. Product clearing: determines the fares and prices applicable to a journey sequence.
  2. Receivables clearing: calculates the revenue due to the participating companies.
  3. Settlement: handles the financial transactions between the partners involved.

This ensures that every transport operator receives the revenue to which it is entitled for the service it has provided.

The Interoperable Network (ION) connects all participants in (((eTicket Deutschland with one another. Technical messages are transmitted securely via the network between transport operators and the central systems, using end-to-end encryption.

This enables information to be exchanged reliably nationwide, regardless of where a ticket is issued or used.

The Ticket Validation and Blocking Service (KOSE) ensures that lost or stolen tickets can be blocked quickly. The system processes blocking and unblocking requests, uses them to generate up-to-date blocking lists and distributes these automatically to all affiliated transport operators. This enables ticket validators to reliably determine whether a ticket is valid at any time.

The Central Switching Office (ZVM) ensures that every message on the Interoperable Network reaches the correct recipient. It relays technical information between all participants in (((eTicket Deutschland, thereby enabling, for example, communication between the transport operator that issued a ticket and the operator at which the ticket is used or checked.
